Two New 4-story buildings set for Fairhaven

Local businessman Sam Boulos is proposing to build two four-story buildings on the corner of 12th Street and Donovan Avenue in Fairhaven where he currently owns one of his Starvin Sam’s Mini-Marts.  Boulos is a resident from Ferndale, WA and owns several gas stations in the Whatcom County area.

It’s basically a case of not making enough money in the gas pumping business on land with it’s highest and best use being something more like what the owner is proposing.   Local builder Mike Kohl with Bas Construction and Development Services introduced the proposed project to a group of people Monday nite December 18, 2006.

The two 9,000-square foot buildings will have commercial space on the ground floor and 10 condominiums above.  The two buildings will be brick-faced, set back from the streets with room for sidewalks.  Watching Mike build over the years, he will probably produce a very attractive finished product that will be another cornerstone building for the entrance to the Fairhaven Historic District.

The groundbreaking for the new Fairhaven real estate project could possibly occur as early as the fall of 2007, and the building could be finished a year later, according to Mike Kohl.

The Fairhaven Historic Neighborhood is really going through some exciting growth over the last few years.  It has become a magnate for tourism to our area, with visitors spending millions of dollars into our local economy.  If one were to look back about ten years, you wouldn't recognize the area.  Hopefully the proposed ideas for future projects will continue to keep the theme going for Fairhaven.
