Bellingham WA - Winter Wonder Land 2006
Snow has arrived a little early this year for the Bellingham, WA area. By 2pm today we already had eight Twelve inches on the ground and now it's snowing even heavier...I'm starting to sound like our local weather man now...
We normally will get a couple inches during the winter months and it's gone within a day. Some years we just get a trace amount and hardly any will accumulate. But from the looks of it, this will be the most we’ve had in about 5 years.
About 8 years ago we got about two feet of snow and the Bellingham Whatcom County area literally shut down for a couple days. Ironically the City of Bellingham sold all of their snow plows to the City of Bellevue the previous year, because we hardly got any snow. I think they recently started buying more snow plows after that big mistake of selling our plows.
Looking outside right now and I feel it's somehow been transformed to Whistler Village Ski Resort in British Columbia. Not that I'd be complaining about that sort of luck, but the reality is, I'm at home in Bellingham, WA. I hope during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics we get two weeks of the powdery white stuff. That would really add to the Olympic Spirit.
Near by Mt. Baker Ski Resort opened a couple weeks ago for the ski season. Anytime Washington ski resorts can open up around here before Thanksgiving it usually means were in for a good ski season. Most of the recent snow accumulation was due to the record amounts of rain Western Washington has received this month. We in fact broke the all time rain accumulation record for November by the middle of the month.
I'll write a longer post on our main blog site at Northwest Living a little later in the day. Wow...I can sure see why people are so mesmerized by falling snow, it's so beautiful with the big powdery flakes! This fresh powder can only be helping that situation.
