The area was home to an Amusement Park in the early 1900s, which had a large wooden rollercoaster, a Ferris wheel and the Silver Beach Hotel.

Silver Beach home owners can shop at Silver Beach Grocery and nearby mini-mall. Barkley Village offers a Haggens Grocery, and many local restruants, banks and boutiques. Additionally Sunset Square is just to the west. Brand new Trader Joe's recently opened at thecorner of James St. and Alabama St.
