The Geneva Neighborhood in Bellingham, WA is one of the most sought after addresses for home owners in Whatcom County. The natural beauty of this Lake Whatcom community with it's tall evergreen trees, large lots, and it's rural setting are some of the reasons many call Geneva home. Although the Geneva District is not inside Bellingham city limits, it's less than ten minutes from Downtown Bellingham. Lake Whatcom real estate can be searched on this site, as well as Geneva area real estate.
Geneva is bordered by Lake Whatcom on the North, Sudden Valley community to the east, Gailbraith mountain to the south and Whatcom Falls Park and Whatcom Falls neighborhood to the west. The Geneva area is one of my favorite areas of Bellingham because Lake Whatcom is so close for most in the Geneva community to walk to We really have a treasure with Lake Whatcom and it's good to see the city and county are working together to preserve it.
The Geneva Neighborhood is served by the Bellingham School District where area kids attend the following schools:Geneva Elementary School, Kulshan Middle School, and Bellingham High School. However if your home lies west of Euclid then kids instead attend: Carl Cozier Elementary, and Sehome High School. Geneva also has two private schools with Evergreen Christian, and Waldorf School (K-8).
The main roads that service Geneva are Lakeway Dr, which changes it's name to Cable St. and then changes to Lake Whatcom Blvd. once the road flows along Lake Whatcom. Lake Louise Rd. and Old Lakeway Dr are also roads well traveled in the community. Cable St. just went thru a major road improvement in 2007, which really upgraded the main road from Bellingham to Lake Whatcom and Sudden Valley. The Firs camp and conference center is located in the heart of the Geneva Neighborhood on Cable Street.
Housing in the Geneva area is mostly upscale ranging in prices from around $250,000 to $1 Million. There are some beautiful homes on Lake Whatcom and many more with stunning views of the lake. The Geneva Neighborhood has no commercial retail areas for shopping within the neighborhood, but shopping is near- by. A short drive to Whatcom Falls area, you'll find a Deli-small store off of Electric Ave. Towards town and just off of Lakeway Dr is the Lakeway Center and they have a Cost Cutter, couple restaurants, two banks, and miscellaneous shopping. Fred Meyers is just across the street.
Geneva Neighborhood has three small parks within the Geneva District it self. Euclid Park is bound by Euclid Avenue and Old Lakeway Dr. Most of the area of Euclid Park is undeveloped as a park except for a small area closer to Lake Whatcom. The park has 700 linear feet of shoreline and a creek that runs through the park and empties into Lake Whatcom. The park is mostly made up of a trail system with a small area for parking. There's also a small park area behind Lowe Ave. called Edwards Park. There's actually a covered picnic area and trail system for Edwards Park thats just behind the homes on the east side of Lowe Ave. There is a small ball field just behind the brand new fire station in Geneva off of Cable street that is used by locals. Locals also utilize the fields and play areas of Geneva Elementary when kids are not attending school. There are tons of quiet streets in the Geneva Neighborhood to walk as well.
Between the Geneva Neighborhood and Sudden Valley is the Stimpson Family Nature Reserve, located on Lake Louise Road, offers over 4 miles of hiking trails through a beautiful forest setting and past the serene Geneva Pond that supports a wide variety of plants and animals. Other Highlights include a genuine beaver pond complete with beaver lodge, four Chuckanut sandstone ridges interspersed with boggy gullies, and one of the most magnificent forests: including Douglas firs that are 175 years old with at least two that are 400 years old or more, Western hemlock, Western red cedar, a few Sitka spruce. To get there from Geneva, Turn right onto Austin Street, which becomes Lake Louise Road. Continue for 1.6 miles to a boulder lined gravel parking lot on the left.
Because Geneva lies within the Lake Whatcom watershed, where Lake Whatcom is the water source for all Bellingham residents, there probably won't be as much new homes built in this area. One can still find building lots in the district, but they are usually far and few between. Your best shot at finding a home in the Geneva Neighborhood is to look for a buy on an existing home that's for sale.
